Is your shoulder sore and are looking for a shoulder pain clinic in Calgary? Did you know that Chiropractic care is an effective treatment for such pain?

Chiropractors are musculoskeletal specialists who can treat a wide range of health conditions such as arthritis, nerve pain, fibromyalgia and strains to name a few.

They also specialize in helping people recover from strains and pains in the neck, back and elsewhere in the body.

Many athletes, for example, who experience repetitive motion or blunt-force trauma sports injuries to their shoulders visit the Chiropractor for treatment.

What Causes Shoulder Pain?

It could be a sports injury or chronic pain. Perhaps it’s from a shoulder strain or sprain.

In other cases, shoulder pain can be caused by inflammation of the soft tissues stemming from one of the following:

  • Poor posture
  • Arthritis
  • Repetitive use
  • Blunt-force trauma injury
  • Frozen shoulder
  • Nerve pain
  • Subluxation
  • An underlying medical condition such as bursitis or fibromyalgia

NOTE: if accompanied with shortness of breath, shoulder pain can also be associated with a heart attack. If this is you, call 911 IMMEDIATELY!

What exactly do our Chiropractors do at our shoulder pain clinic in Calgary?

#1 – Initial Shoulder Pain Assessment

It is important to gather the data on your shoulder pain before beginning treatment. An initial assessment typically includes:

  • Musculoskeletal assessment
  • Nervous system assessment
  • Postural and alignment assessments
  • Muscle strength testing
  • Range of motion testing
  • Verbal questions in addition to patient form questionnaire

Once our Chiropractors have collected enough data, they create a custom-made treatment plan that will help relieve your shoulder pain as quickly and efficiently as possible.

That treatment plan may include any one or a combination of the following:

#2 – Chiropractic Manual Adjustments

Four joints make up your shoulder. Three bones (collar bone, shoulder blade, upper arm bone), and the surrounding soft tissues.

Your shoulder’s four components work together to provide you with strength and mobility. If one element isn’t working, it can cause a break down of function and misalignment.

When misaligned, some of your soft tissues may begin to compensate for weakness in your shoulder, resulting in shoulder pain. Sometimes, misalignment in the neck or back can also cause shoulder pain.

A Chiropractic adjustment will help restore alignment and function in your shoulder.

#3 – Shoulder Trigger Point Therapy

Trigger point therapy works by applying pressure on the muscle first, then mobilizing the joint until the trigger point melts and goes away.

This method of shoulder pain treatment in Calgary helps to restore function and movement.

Our Chiropractor will softly apply a certain amount of pressure to these trigger points using their fingers.

Shoulder trigger point therapy is completely painless!

#4 – Cold Laser Therapy

Cold Laser Therapy is another method used by our Chiropractors at our shoulder pain clinic in Calgary.

It works by sending light energy into your cells at a microscopic level, initiating the “power plants” of your cells – mitochondria – to work and giving them increased energy to do so.

As a result, your cells heal quicker while inflammation and pain subside.

#5 – Physiotherapy Exercises

Certain physio exercises may help to restore strength in your shoulder’s ligaments and tendons.

Our Chiropractors will show you how to perform these exercises in office and request you do them at home for maximum shoulder pain treatment effectiveness.

Other forms of treatment include soft tissue therapy, pressure gun and nutritional tips to name a few.

A Word on Shoulder Pain…John Battershill Revelation Health Centre Chiropractic & Wellness Clinic

Today was a great day at work and what I saw today was a lot of shoulder pain.

When the rib cage elevates on one side and levels the shoulders, it causes certain muscles and tendons to pull tight on one side and to go slack on the other.

This creates an imbalance in the internal and external rotators which can result in impingement syndrome is deep inside the shoulder. This impingement syndrome can be classified as a partial or total frozen shoulder.

Without levelling the rib cage to create level shoulders, as a shoulder pain patient you may get treatment for symptoms over and over again with little progress.

Muscles are always over contracting when the ligaments have stretched, or are not as tight as they need to be sometimes because of high acidity in the body. Lowering the body’s acidity levels can also play a significant part in the overall rehab of a shoulder injury.

Another important component is the nerve supply to the shoulder which comes from the lower neck and upper back. These nerves need to be decompressed and activated to allow the muscles to work properly and regain balance.

These strategies used at our shoulder pain clinic in Calgary, among others, will help treat the underlying cause of your pain. Don’t put a “band-aid” solution on your pain ever again. The treatments we use at our office attack the underlying cause to prevent symptoms from returning in the future.
