Dr. Nicholls specializations include:
Contemporary Medical Acupuncture
Acupuncture is a minimally invasive, non-painful part of conservative care that works by modulating the nervous system to restore its function.
Given the nervous system’s connection with nearly every cell, acupuncture can be used to help with muscles or joint problems all over the body or in the organs of the abdomen and thorax.
Acupuncture carries with it very few side effects when used by trained professionals. It is a precise nerve stimulation technique; fine acupuncture needles are inserted and stimulated with electricity which modulates abnormal activity of the nervous system.
Contemporary Medical Acupuncture aims to bridge the gap between classical acupuncture therapy and contemporary medicine to achieve their ultimate integration.
This technique is often referred to as Neurofunctional Acupuncture because it is rooted on current concepts of neurophysiology, neuroanatomy, and pathophysiology. It helps to restore proper function of the nervous system by either the up-regulation or down-regulation of specific cellular functions.
To put it simply, if the nervous system is hyper-active (i.e. stress or chronic pain cases) or hypo-active (i.e. muscle inhibition or weakness) we can normalize it by either turning it down or turning it up respectively. Like adjusting the “dimmer” switch you use at home for the lights.
Webster Technique (ICPA)
Webster Certified Chiropractor provides safe, effective and drug free care for pregnant moms. A Webster Certified Chiropractor has been specifically trained to assess and adjust the spine and pelvis of pregnant women.
Did you know that at least 50% of pregnant women experience back pain? 10% of those report discomfort severe enough to disrupt their daily routine.
Why is pregnancy-related back pain so common?
The average healthy weight gain in pregnancy is 25-35 lbs. As the baby grows, the spinal curve increases and the core muscles cannot stabilize the spine as well as before. This extra weight, especially in the front of the body, places a lot of stress on the joints in the back, hips, knees, and feet.
In addition, in the 3rd trimester, the hormone Relaxin increases 10 times. This hormone relaxes your ligaments and loosens the body’s joints to accommodate growth and delivery of the baby. These loose joints force the muscles of the back and pelvis to work overtime, resulting in muscle and joint pain.
The benefits of Chiropractic care throughout your pregnancy:
- Reduce the pain and time of labor and delivery
- Maintain an overall healthier pregnancy
- Control symptoms of nausea
- Encourage optimal positioning of the pelvis to help reduce in-utero constraint and breech presentation
- Relieve back, neck, foot, and joint pain
Jacquelyn loves being able to provide gentle chiropractic care for pregnant moms, kids, and infants. Spinal problems seen in adults often begin as early as birth. Birthing methods can stress an infant’s spine and developing nerve system.
The resulting irritation of misalignment can be the cause of many newborn health complaints. A chiropractic adjustment can correct any spinal issues and allow the baby to develop in a healthy and natural way.
Colic, breathing problems, nursing difficulties, sleep disturbances, allergic reactions and chronic infections can often be aided with chiropractic care.
As your infant grows, learning to hold up the head, to sit, crawl and walk affect spinal alignment and are important times to have a child checked by a Doctor of Chiropractic.
Is Chiropractic care safe for children?
Yes! The International Chiropractic Pediatric Association has spent years researching and investigating for the safety of chiropractic for children.
Dr. Jacquelyn has taken numerous course through the ICPA to ensure a full understanding of the specific needs for children under chiropractic care.
Commonly treated conditions in childhood:
- Breastfeeding Difficulties
- Birthing Trauma
- Growing Pains
- Bed Wetting
- Painful Joints
- Sports Injuries (such as Little League Elbow or sprained ankles)
Interferential Current and Electrotherapies
Electrotherapy is a form of medical treatment which uses small electrical impulses to:
- Repair tissue
- Stimulate muscles
- Increase sensations and muscle strength.
It is an effective therapy option to relieve pain and accelerate the self-healing process within the body. The benefits of electrotherapy are wide-ranging and include a more advanced healing process, a more effective circulatory system and increased muscle tone. This can produce:
- A reduction in pain and
- Increased strength, range of movement,
- Speed and strength of muscle contractions and an increased rate of absorption.
Ultrasound therapy is the use of Ultrasonic waves or sound waves to treat muscle injuries, reduce the inflammatory response and break up blockages. It does this by using high frequency mechanical vibration in the treatment pad.
This metal pad is then moved over the surface of the skin over the injury, transmitting the energy into the tissues and is an effective tool for treating chronic pain as well as other various kinds of disorders such as mastitis with breast-feeding mothers.
Ultrasound is thought to accelerate the normal resolution time of the inflammatory process by attracting more mast cells to the site of injury. This may cause an increase in blood flow which can be beneficial in the sub-acute phase of tissue injury. As blood flow may be increased it is not advised to use ultrasound immediately after injury.
