How Can Chiropractic Treatments Repair Extremity Joint and Spinal Subluxations?
The term “subluxation” is used by chiropractors to describe what happens when a spinal disc or extremity joint is misaligned and experiences a loss of function.
A spinal subluxation, for example, can add pressure and stress on spinal nerves, blood vessels and surrounding soft tissues. This interferes with normal functioning of the nerves and affects their ability to relay information from our central nervous systems control centre (the brain) to the rest of our body.
Without the correct signals from our brain, our organs will not function at maximum capacity which in turn can lead to many different health problems.
Subluxations can occur in many different ways, including:
- Sports injuries
- Pregnancy and child birth traumas
- Blunt force trauma
- Accidental collision
- Improper posture
- Improper sleeping position
- Poor lifting techniques
- Repetitive use of extremities
Dr. Battershill’s extensive experience as a doctor of chiropractic allows him to treat both spinal and extremity joint subluxations successfully and efficiently.
He uses a combination of chiropractic, applied kinesiology, Cox® Technic spinal decompression therapy and functional neurology to help his patients heal any subluxations they may have and move back towards healthy functioning.
A message from Dr. Battershill on subluxations and chiropractic care:
Spinal subluxations will interfere with the nerves in the spinal cord that play a big role in determining the healthiness of an individual. Lowered nerve function in the spine will affect everything that is joined to that “circuit breaker”.
For instance, the vertebrae at the bottom of the spine which is commonly disrupted in patients with lower back pain also relates to the function of the large intestine and the bladder. Another example is when the heart does not work right, the “circuit breaker” in the upper spinal column refers pain down the arm which is a common warning signal for a cardiac arrest.
One of the most common spinal subluxations I see in my office is neck pain that relates to chronic postural problems when sitting or even in movement.
Extremity joint subluxations
Extremely joint subluxations interfere with the function and strength of the muscles and tendons that cross the joints. If this occurs, there’s a decrease in strength and endurance and an increase in symptoms and pain.
For instance, if the elbow is misaligned, then most commonly people will develop pain when using it, which is easily treated by realigning the bones and working with the soft tissue to lower the tension.
One of the most common joint subluxations I see in my office is an internal rotation of the shoulder because the external rotators / rotator cuff muscles are turned off because of repetitive strain and misuse of the shoulder joint.
Chiropractic care can help fix both spinal and extremity joint subluxations by restoring healthy function in the central nervous system and the rest of the body as a result.
