Eyelights for Concussion Rehab in Calgary
If you are looking for concussion rehab in Calgary, you’ve definitely come to the right website!
Eyelights for Doctors is just one of many tools our Chiropractors use to treat post-concussion syndrome, defined as a set of symptoms that can continue for weeks, months or even years after suffering a concussion if not treated properly.
Common post-concussion symptoms:
- Blurred vision
- Concentration loss
- Memory loss
Aside from the physical – i.e. food, air and water – we as humans are very much affected by light. Studies show that apart from these important physical environment inputs, light is the next most influential factor in controlling function within the body.
Here’s the need-to-know about this unique complimentary method of concussion rehabilitation we use as part of our Regain Your Brain Program at Revelation Health.
What are Eyelights?
Eyelights are a specially designed pair of glasses with built-in flashing lights behind an interchangeable lens. There are four lights surrounding each eye in a square formation.
The lights are programmed to blink on your non-dominant eye (tested and determined before use by healthcare provider) which acts to strengthen the weaker side of your brain.
Eyelight therapy, in most cases, can be used to treat symptoms associated with concussion injuries by activating and strengthening damaged neurons and synapses.
How do Eyelights Work?
Eyelights work by sending light through the eyes which stimulates brain function by opening neurological pathways that have been previously damaged and / or are not working properly.
Like Cold Laser Therapy, light kickstarts your metabolism on a cellular level when applied correctly and methodically.
Eyelights send light through the eye to the control centre of your brain, where this light is then converted into electro-chemical impulses which are then relayed to other parts of the body such as the pineal and pituitary glands.
When these glands are stimulated, they distribute hormonal messages through your nervous system to virtually every cell you have. This is just one example of how Eyelights work.
For concussion patients, the neurons that are not transmitting impulses due to sustained injury to their brain become activated by the light stimulus.

Eyelights target your non-dominant eye because the light pulses are programmed to stimulate the weaker side of your brain and encourage it to function at a higher level. The dominant side of your brain will have more vascularity and oxygen / nutrients delivered, meaning your non-dominant side is consistently being deprived of these essential components.
- Dominant right eye: eyelights will affect the creative side of your thought processes, or the right hemisphere of your brain
- Dominant left eye: eyelights will have a stronger effect on the analytical portion of your thought processes, or the left hemisphere of your brain.
Every pair of Eyelights glasses come with a set of differently coloured lenses which help stimulate specific parts of the brain in users.
For example, a RED lens helps to restore courage, vitality and self confidence by activating blood circulation in the sympathetic nervous system.
An ORANGE lens helps to stimulate the emotional centre in the brain in order to bring about a renewed enthusiasm for life. Orange also helps to strengthen your metabolism.
BLUE is a lens we often use in our clinic for concussion patients. It stimulates parts of the brain that help to reduce heart rate and blood pressure. It also is used to treat people with anxiety, memory and concentration problems and insomnia, three common symptoms of post-concussion syndrome.
Eyelights have a total of seven lens colours. These are used in tandem with testing which determines what part of your brain has been affected after sustaining a concussion.
Can Eyelights be used for other brain-related conditions?

A Word on Eyelights…
When a person experiences a concussion, it is very frequent that we use eye lights to activate areas of their brain that have sustained injury.
Eyelights technology come in seven colours: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet, clear. Different areas of the brain require different colours of eye shades to stimulate or calm down an area of the brain.
We test the colours to find out what is appropriate for each patients’ concussion injury through muscle testing.
Sometimes we will recommend patients to buy these eyelights and use them at home depending on their effectiveness during treatment at our office.
