What is a Concussion?
A concussion is a change of brain function resulting from a direct blow or a jolt to the head, face, jaw, chest, or elsewhere in the body that causes the brain to move in the skull.
During a concussion, the brain matter often twists damaging brain cells and blood vessels. This injury changes the chemicals responsible for brain functions which creates an altered state of consciousness.
These chemical changes in the brain may not become noticeable symptoms for days to weeks following a concussion.
Common Symptoms of a concussion can include one or several of the following:
- Loss of balance
- Vision difficulties
- Loss of coordination
- Memory loss
- Loss of skills
- Clinical depression
- Attention difficulties
- Ringing in the ears
- Seeing stars
- Altered sense of taste or smell
- Emotional changes
- Sensitivity to light or noise
- Sadness / Hopelessness
- Being “in a fog”
Other changes could include irritability which may be more noticeable by family and friends.
If you have a loved one who is suffering from any of these symptoms, why wait for concussion and brain rehab? Get started on the road back to health today!
